Expansion chamber dent repair kit

Fix it yourself at home. $155 delivered Australia-wide.

Dented 2-stroke pipe? Fix it yourself. Our expansion chamber dent repair kit pushes dents out at home with air pressure and heat, with no cutting or welding.

Dents in an expansion chamber disrupt exhaust flow and can cost you power and smooth torque. New chambers are expensive and hard to find for older bikes, so bringing a sound pipe back into shape saves money and keeps the original fit.

How the kit works

  1. Measure both ends of your pipe and choose the setup: plate only for 200-300cc, or plate plus sleeve for 125-150cc.
  2. Seal both ends with the end plates and gaskets and tighten the nuts evenly.
  3. Connect your air compressor to the valve and bring the pressure up slowly, watching the gauge.
  4. Apply gentle, even heat to the dent with a torch. The pressure inside pushes the metal back out.
  5. Work in stages, letting the pipe cool and checking it between passes.

You'll also need an air compressor, a torch (oxy-acetylene, propane or MAPP gas), eye protection and gloves.

Before and after: what heat and air pressure can do

A badly crushed 2-stroke pipe brought back into shape using heat and air pressure, the same method the kit uses. Results depend on the pipe and the damage.

Which pipes it suits

  • 200-300cc 2-stroke pipes (ends about 1.5"-2"): plate only
  • 125-150cc 2-stroke pipes (ends about 1"-1.5"): plate plus sleeve insert
  • Common Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki and Yamaha 2-stroke dirt bike pipes

Not suitable for: FMF pipes stamped "SST", and YZ250X pipes with grooves at the end section (standard YZ250 pipes are fine). Measure your pipe ends before ordering.

Safety

Heat and pressure together are dangerous. Wear eye protection and gloves, keep people clear, use gentle moving heat, and never exceed the gauge limit. Pipes can split or burst, especially old, thin or previously repaired ones. You use the kit at your own risk.

When a pipe can't be saved

The kit reshapes dented metal. It can't fix a pipe that has failed. Replace the pipe if:

  • It's split, cracked or leaking.
  • The metal is thin, worn through or has been repaired before.
  • The dent is sharp and creased, or the pipe is crushed flat.

FAQs

What does the kit cost?

$155 delivered anywhere in Australia, with free shipping included. Buy the kit.

Will the kit fit my pipe?

Measure both ends. 200-300cc pipes use the plate only, and 125-150cc pipes use the plate with the sleeve insert. It doesn't suit FMF SST-stamped or YZ250X pipes.

What else do I need?

An air compressor, a torch (oxy-acetylene, propane or MAPP gas), eye protection and gloves.

Do I need to cut or weld the pipe?

No. The kit seals the ends, and air pressure with gentle heat pushes the dent out.

Can the kit fix a cracked or split pipe?

No. Split, cracked or badly thinned pipes need replacing.
